Then he's a pretty effective slogger - 21st ranked batsman and he's just scored the fastest hundred in test history. And he got New Zealand out of a horrible mess today.

It's not that he is techniqueless; he is just more prone to take risks and not get into the Test mode of cautious play. You don't score a triple century in a Test match when your team is in the doldrums looking at a big loss by just being a slogger. His kind of play might not be suitable for everyone; but it is very effective.

McCullum had a big piece of luck on 39, when he sliced Pattinson to Marsh.

But umpire Kettleborough requested a replay :

which showed Pattinson had bowled a NO-ball.  :P
