New Zealand have claimed their first Test win over India since 2002 as Brendon McCullum's side secured a thrilling 40-run victory in the opening Test in Auckland on Sunday.
After setting India 407 for the victory, fast bowlers Neil Wagner picked four wickets and fellow quicks Trent Boult and Tim Southee claimed three each to bowl the visitors out for 366.
The victory was set up by their mammoth first-innings score of 503 with captain McCullum's 224 the pinnacle of their total, but it was the bowlers who conjured up some magic on day four to pull off the win.

Brendon McCullum did not enforce the follow-on at Eden Park and watched his batsmen crash to 105 in 41.2 overs in their second innings. He then saw India motor to 222 for 2 in their chase of 407. However, McCullum said that at no point did he second guess the choice he made, and was instead proud of the character New Zealand showed to absorb whatever India threw at them and secure a 40-run win.
"You can't regret any decision you make and you make that decision, you put some thought into it," McCullum said. "Specially when it comes to the follow-on, you speak to your bowlers and your senior players. Some people have different theories but you try to garner as much majority as you can. Ultimately someone has got to make that decision and I guess that comes down to me. I made the decision and I never regretted it for a moment."

Wow Kiwis! Terrific. And I think India's "fightback" has been a bit exaggerated. They did well, but not great - they struggled a lot against pacers. And Sodhi bowled ABSOLUTE garbage. Was painful to watch. I think 60 odd runs came from him alone.
That said, Dhawan still did well, and Kohli threw it away. Jadeja - WTF? The guy has like 3 triple tons in India, did he score that against high school kids or what? Jesus Christ.

And Wagner's been a total surprise package this test IMO. I was calling for him to be dropped, but bloody hell did he come back and how. I mean I hope he keeps it up, but I don't still see him as a long term prospect. But yeah, lets see - I think the 3 pace attack still is pretty damn classy. I'd just kick Sodhi out and bring in maybe Latham in.
