CHANDERPAUL TELLS GUYANA CHRONICLE HE STILL HAS NUMEROUS GOALS TO ACHIEVE

West Indian great Shiv Chanderpaul recently sat down with the Guyana Chronicle and talked cricket. Below are portions of the interview which will be published in next Sunday's Chronicle.
Chronicle: First of all Shiv, thanks for taking the time to talk to us. You ended 2013 ranked as the #2 test batsman in the world and you also surpassed Australian Border to become the 6th highest runs scorer in test cricket. What is it that keeps you going and keeps you performing at such an incredibly high standard ?
SHIV: First of all I would like to thank the good Lord for blessing me with good health and strength. I continue to love cricket passionately. My enthusiasm for the sport is greater today than it was nearly 20 years ago when I made my international debut. What keeps me peforming at a high standard is I constantly challenge myself to be better. I work very hard at my game. I practice endlessly. And I keep setting new goals for myself.
Chronicle: What are some of your cricket goals ?
SHIV: My goals keep changing. I believe to be successful in life you have to constantly set new goals. And when you achieve those goals you set new goals. I believe in dreaming big. Nothing is impossible if you believe in yourself and you work hard.
Chronicle: Any specific goals you care to share with us ?
SHIV: Well, you mentioned that I just passed Alan Border to become the 6th highest scorer in test cricket. Right now my next goal is to become the first West Indian to score 12,000 runs in test cricket. And once I reach that target I will set a new goal.
Chronicle: Would we be correct is saying that retirement has not crossed your mind ?
SHIV:LOL. As long as my cricket remains at a high level and as long as I feel that I am an asset to the West Indies and I still have much to offer the team, then retirement is not be an option for me. I still have goals to achieve.
Chronicle: You scored 8778 runs in onedayers at an average of 41.60 with 11 hundreds and 59 fifties, but then you were dropped by the WI selectors. The WI oneday team is struggling right now. Would you play oneday cricket for the WI if the selectors recalled you ?
SHIV: The selectors would never recall me. They were very upset when I refused to retire. If they were to recall me I would try my hardest to score a hundred and that would embarrass them. So a recall to the West Indies oneday team is out of the question. Right now my focus is on tests and achieving new goals I have set for myself.
Chronicle: But if the selectors put their pride in their back pocket and recall you would you play ?
SHIV: Yes.
Chronicle: You and your second wife have a daughter. You have 2 sons and now a daughter. Will she be playing cricket ?
SHIV: LOL! No she will not be playing cricket. But she has brought great joy into my life. I feel like I can play for another 10 years. LOL
Chronicle: Thanks for taking the time to speak with us Shiv.
SHIV: Thanks and praise the Lord

Shiv says WI selectors are afraid to pick him for the oneday team because he may embarrass them with a hundred.
* Let's take a look at the slackers who are being picked ahead of Shiv by the spiteful coach and selectors:
AVERAGE
PLAYER
STRIKE RATE
31.58
Simmons(71.70)
31.21
Samuels(72.79)
28.89
Charles(80.96)
26.20
Deonarine(68.96)
41.60
Chanderpaul(70.74)
stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/i...results;type=batting
Shiv is right! The spiteful WI selectors and coach are afraid he would score a hundred if he were given a chance to play onedayers again.

The nucleus of my Westindies team both Tests and ODI
Gayle, Chanderpaul , Sarwan , Darren Bravo , Ramdin
Roach, Holder, Narine
It is better to lose with this bunch rather than the sorry lot we have now.
