No Christmas message delivered by Guyana’s president | Georgetown, Guyana: December 28th, 2012 —
Guyanese citizens are awakening to a few startling realities of a Donald Ramotar presidency in Guyana, but none more shocking to date than this president’s failure to send a Christmas message to the people of Guyana.
The annual Presidential Christmas address has become a staple of Guyanese society and every President has addressed the nation on this Christian holiday that commemorates the birth of Jesus the Christ. Christmas, a season with a message of peace and goodwill to all men is not only celebrated by Guyanese Christians but by many of all faiths who enjoy the commercial and spiritual appeal of the season.
Many Guyanese were shocked that Mr. Ramotar failed to address the nation, but OneVoice News was reliably informed by sources within the PPPC that Ramotar, a devout atheist may have chosen to express his beliefs of freedom “from†religion by his recent action.
OVNN finds it odd that a man who swore an oath (albeit on no holy book) to be President of all Guyanese regardless of religious origin, would snub Christians; a highly visible cross section of the Guyanese society, who make up the largest single religious group in Guyana, straddling all ethnic groups and geographic locations.
Mr. Ramotar definitely owes the people of Guyana and especially the Christian community, an explanation for his failure to acknowledge the holiest of days on the Christian calendar. Guyana is not only a multi-ethnic society, but also a melting pot of many religions, and protocol dictates that Guyana’s president acknowledge the holy days of all major religions.
One shudders to think what would have been the reaction in the Hindu community if the president had chosen not to acknowledge Diwali or in the Muslim community if the executive had chosen not to commemorate Eid al-fitr.
Mr. Ramotar must recognize that he is no longer the General Secretary of the PPPC but President of Guyana, and citizens will expect him to judiciously execute the duties of President without fear or favour, and with ill will towards none.
Citizens of Guyana await a speedy explanation for this diplomatic blunder while Christians await an apology from Mr Ramotar.

addressing the public for christmas and doing a good job in govnt are 2 completley different things.
and if hes an atheist - that has nothing to do with his ability to run govnt.
furthermore doesnt everyone have the right to sport on NYE?

If he wants to sport up for xmas and "Old Year's Night that his right. However, proper protocol dictates that as current head of state it is within his capacity to address the nation on such a festive occasion. but as is expected from a canecuttah he doesn't know any better, someone should remind him that Guyana is a multi-ethnic and multi-religious society.
He sure would not repeat such a glaring oversight to send out messages to hindus and muslims on their respective religious holidays, both the fullahs and the hindus would be all up in arms ready to take him to the slaughter house.
