On this day in 1951, Sridharan Jeganathan was born. He was a talented left-arm spin bowling all-rounder who represented Sri Lanka in two Test matches and five One Day Internationals. He also participated in the 1987 Cricket World Cup. Throughout his international career, Jeganathan managed to take five wickets in ODIs, in addition to his 49 first-class wickets.
One of his notable performances with the bat occurred during the 1982–83 Australian tour, when Sri Lanka played against Tasmania. In that game, Jeganathan came in to bat at number nine when the team was struggling at 89 for 7. He displayed excellent knock scoring 74 runs and forming a crucial 140-run partnership for the eighth wicket with Ravi Ratnayake.
After retiring from playing cricket, Jeganathan ventured into coaching and became the head coach of the Malaysian cricket team. Tragically, he died at the age of 44, which unfortunately made him the first Sri Lankan Test cricketer to pass away.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
