Mohammed, Blackwood score A Team centuries

(CMC) – Captain Jason Mohammed notched his second consecutive century and Jermaine Blackwood added another, as West Indies A notched the first win of their England tour by defeating Worcestershire by 21 runs earlier today.

Mohammed scored 142 from just 120 balls, while opening batsman Blackwood stroked 119 from 122 balls, to help lead the visitors to a challenging total of 338 for nine from their 50 overs.
The home side was then limited to 317 for eight from their 50 overs.

The two shared in a 238-run third wicket partnership to help rescue their team from a perilous 28 for two, following the early dismissals of Chandrapaul Hemraj (20) and Devon Thomas, who made just three.

Mohammed’s 162-minute knock contained 11 boundaries and four sixes, while Blackwood was at the crease for three minutes shy of three hours and struck 14 boundaries.
After Mohammed and Sunil Ambris were dismissed within three balls of each other by left-arm pacer Ross Whiteley, leaving the score on 266 for four, Blackwood teamed up with Rovman Powell to add 46 valuable runs and carry the total over the 300 mark.

Powell scored a whirlwind 42 from 24 balls, inclusive of three boundaries and two sixes.
There was little resistance after, however, as the West Indies A lost their final four wickets for just 26 runs.

Dillon Pennington was the pick of the bowlers, ending with five for 67 from his nine overs, while Whiteley nabbed four for 58 from nine overs as well.
Led by a fine bowling performance from opening fast-bowler Chemar Holder, the visitors were then able to restrict Worcestershire despite notable contributions from the middle order.

Holder grabbed three wickets for 42 runs from his 10 overs and was ably supported by Rahkeem Cornwall, who chipped in with two for 52.
Worcestershire got off to a good start, the opening pair of George Rhodes and Olly Westbury adding 54 before Holder had the latter caught behind by wicketkeeper Thomas for eight.

The home side was actually coasting on 179 for two at one stage, before Holder returned to remove the dangerous looking Rhodes, who too was caught behind by Thomas for the top score of 95.

His almost two-hour knock took 98 balls and contained 13 boundaries and one six.
Several other batsmen got starts, but failed to capitalize, as the West Indies got breakthroughs everytime it seemed as though Worcestershire was gaining momentum.

Tom Fell (28), Jack Haynes (33), Joshua Dell (46) and Whiteley, who made 70, failed to convert after promising starts.
The West Indies will next face the England Lions at Derby on Saturday.
