The cash before country saga is affecting West Indies cricket once again, this time over the selection of the team for the crucial ICC World Cup Qualifier tournament in Zimbabwe next month.
CEO of Cricket West Indies (CWI) Johnny Grave confirmed yesterday that “a number of players” have indicated that they would not be available for the series which qualifies the top two teams for next year’s 50-over World Cup in England, but would instead be playing in the Pakistan Super League. That tournament starts on February 22 and runs to March 25. The ICC Qualifier goes from March 4-25.
CWI has not yet announced the squad for that series but Grave told the Express that the players’ decisions were “hugely disappointing.”
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

this same mantra again..full of dishonesty and crocodile tears..... no matter! it does not obviate the decision west indies cricket have to make...on the pay of the players.
the players have to be paid a wage that allows them to live. if the cWI cant pay them such a wage they they have a right to go seek it elsewhere
the cWI took conscious decision to reduce the players in all ways in the cricket. the cWI now pays its executives huge salaries, far more than they pay the players. there isn't enough money in the cricket to pay the players while paying executives big time.
you cant have a massive bureaucracy in the cricket and have satisfied players at the same time. that is why the cricket worked when the planters ran it...because they never paid themselves. now that there is a massive bureau running the cricket there is no money to pay the players. the players must be reduced to chattel
so west indies have a choice: keep the bureau in which case the cricket will die..or find an economic way of running the cricket effectively in the circumstances. I have considered that question already and there is one answer: kill the bureau and make the cricket into a worker co-op
let the players run the cricket period. the players can hire a small secretariat. for the paperwork necessary..and the few professionals they need for the media, technician and physio etc..
the secretariat works in connection with the regional cricket boards..working out new and cost effective way(s) of efficient selection etc

Pretty sad that they prefer the money over representing their country imo. At the same time, there should be regulations releasing the players to represent their countries, like happen in football.

I couldn't agree more. After all, we live in the money-driven world and these players are not to be blamed for choosing to earn more and have better lives. If the CWI wanted them on team, they should have offered a bigger salary.
People watch and enjoy cricket because of the good game that the good players deliver, not because of some executive who gets a big paycheck. The CWI should learn prioritize.
