The hunger for the game is still there’– Gajanand Singh

‘GOOD things come to those who wait’ are certainly the words uttered by the former West Indies Under 19 batsman, Gajanand Singh.
Singh earned a surprised 11th round pick set at US$7500 at the fifth edition of the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2017 players draft in Barbados. He was selected for the Guyana Amazon Warriors Team. His entrance in the draft on two previous occasions were unsuccessful.
This breakthrough comes on the heels of some sterling performances recently for the left-handed batsman who now resides in New York.

Gajanand Singh was born on the 3rd October 1987. He represented his country at all levels of the game, Under-15,17,19 and made his first-class debut for Guyana in Jamaica in 2008. His highest first-class score being 66 in the first innings against Barbados at Albion in February 2010.
As early in his youth cricketing days Singh was earmarked as one for the future. However, after playing at the ICC U-19 Youth World Cup in 2006, and two years later debuting at the first-class level, Gajanand Singh faded from the scene. Many questioned his absence from the local cricketing scene. His hiatus from the game was a cause for concern by his close friends and family.
When quizzed on the reason for him being away from the game, he said, ‘I took a break for some personal reasons, I never lost the hunger and passion for the game’.
The love and support of his family and friends helped him in rediscovering his potentials.
The passion for the game was evident in his last major competition. Playing for DCC he amassed a tournament high 328 runs in the UWI/UNICOM T20 cricket tournament played in Trinidad and Tobago. Singh’s run fest in the tournament saw him only being dismissed once.
He had scores of 64, 88, 55, 56 and 65 with an incomparable average of 276.00. Because of his eye-catching performance, he was adjudged the most valuable player.
Most recently his prolific run of form continued in the Greenline Independent T20 Tournament in New York. He was presented the award of MVP and best batsman. His scores were 42, 102, 30 and 70.
Sights on first class cricket.
Singh attests that hard training brought about his recent success. ‘I’ve been working with the Jaguars’ academy for over a year and I knew that it was the perfect opportunity to make an impact’.
His T20 exploits has earned him a highest score of 116 in the Chicago Premier League. Singh stated that, “T20 cricket is a wonderful format of the game which is full of excitement and entertainment for both the players and the fans”.
The Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2017 will see one of four new faces in the Guyana Amazon Warriors team, that of Gajanand Singh.
He further emphasise, “I’m looking forward to this tournament and I will give it my best shot when called upon”.
At 29, Gajanand Singh is far from finished. With a modest First class record thus far in his career, He sets his sights on getting back into the first class set up for Guyana,
‘I’m working really hard to get back into first class cricket and scoring lots of runs, and see where it goes from there’.
