Why cricket is not popular in most countries

So I was really interested  in knowing why cricket is not popular  in most countries. I did a quick research and these are some of the explanations I got.
For one, cricket is a pricey game that even training a kid who is interested  in learning the game would cost a lot of money that most people can't afford.
Secondly,  unlike most games, cricket plays for quite a long time that most people wouldn't sit down and watch the match to the end.  The players themselves have to be hardened to play the entire time.
Thirdly,  cricket can't be played on a wet day unlike football. The ball has to bounce and this wouldn't happen on a wet day.
Finally,  unlike football, cricket has complicated  requirements that require an experts attention.

I agree with some of the points raised here. But I also think cricket is popular in some countries as opposed to others because some countries have adopted Cricket as the official country sport. The government in these countries focuses on this sport and ensures it gets money for the national team to be trained and so on.

I agree with your findings. Cricket is a costly game indeed and my brother went to coaching for a month  and then stopped because we couldn't afford the training fees. Plus the supplies like the bat, helmet, and many other things are also quite expensive. I was once a big cricket fan but nowadays I have lost interest.

You are right in all the points you posted there. Here in Romania, we don't have this sport, no one practice here and some say it is very difficult to understand it, and that we don't have fields for it, and it cost a lot.

Most of the countries ruled by British empire has cricket as popular sports. But other countries had most of the football population. And that's one reason they are gaining popularity. So that could be one reason there. You can see that in future this may change. But still football is getting popular.

I don't know more about other countries, but our country and few countries around us are really fond of cricket game. Cricket is having highest hype here than any other game. It is getting more attention than our national game. At some level it is wrong as every sports should get proper attention.

I think mostly that cricket is most popular in Australia,England,India, and Southern Africa as well.  Also in other countries the people do not grow up playing cricket so that is a big thing as well.  I think England is very proud that they created the game-but America is not that big on soccer or cricket-but at one time cricket was very popular in the States before baseball took over.

There are a few sports that even though they are pretty popular in some countries, in some they're not even known, as for cricket, the problem is as the others have stated, most countries don't include it in academics nor have clubs for it.

Cricket started in the from of an exclusive club for a small number of elite in Britain. They weren't concerned about spreading the game around the globe. The game was mostly extended to the colonies where the elite British subjects resided overseas. Cricket has remained limited in its presence worldwide because the governing body seems to be still holding on to semblance of the same old elitist stance. They have not really put out the effort that the other major sporting bodies have had to garner worldwide participation for their kind of sport. It seems that the Cricket administrator's are mostly interested in imposing penalties and sanctions.
