At Eve Leary, Essequibo lost their last four wickets for no runs to slump to 106 despite a swashbuckling 25 with four fours and a six from powerful fast bowler Joshua Jones, 22 from Skipper Mark Williams and 15 from Stephon Campbell.
Keshram Seyhodan (3-27) and Sagar Hetheramani (2-1) did the damage for Demerara who ended day one on 235-5. Perez reached the boundary 11 times in his 125-ball and 189-minute 95, while West Indies U-19 selectee Joshua Persaud stroked five fours in his 49-ball and 80-minute 31.
Ramnarine Chetura (23*) and Renaldo Ali- Mohamed (21) also chipped in as left-arm spinner Joel Fortune took 3-49.
Essequibo elected to bat on a good track and slow outfield and quickly lost Mark Ramsammy (2); run out at 7-1 before Williams and Campbell took the score to 40 when Williams was dismissed by Keshan Singh.
It was confirmed by the Demerara Manager that Singh did not eat Lunch since no vegetarian meal was sent for him yesterday although this was done in the 50-over competition. His parents arrived at 13:10 after being notified of the situation.
Kurt Lovell 8 was run out at 54 before Seyhodan got rid of the left-handed Campbell, edging a flick to cover, four runs later.

Letter to the Sports Editor…Sean Devers lied in this instance

Dear Editor,
I am writing to you so that the public can have a true understanding of an issue prominently highlighted by your cricket reporter, Sean Devers, in an article published in the sports pages of your 5th June edition. It seems of significant importance that Mr. Devers would state the following, “It was confirmed by the Demerara Manager that Singh did not eat lunch since no vegetarian meal was sent for him yesterday although this was done in the 50 over Competition. His parents arrived at 13:40 hours after being notified of the situation”.I would like to make it pellucidly clear (redundancy noted) that I NEVER had any conversation with Devers on this issue and that the player did have a meal. The Player in question, Mr. Kishan Singh, is a vegetarian, so upon realizing that a vegetarian meal was not delivered by the caterer I informed the GCB Administrator who instructed that I purchase a meal and the situation would be rectified the following day. I sent for a vegetarian meal by which time the player’s parent arrived with a special meal.I offered the additional meal to the player but he told me that his father had already brought food for him which he had eaten. No one had contacted the parent on the matter (confirmed by his father) as they usually bring food for their son given his special meal situation. At no time would I allow a player to go hungry as Mr. Sean Devers is reporting. I am also well aware that Mr. Rohan Sarjoo was present and in conversation with Devers on this important matter. It is public knowledge that Sarjoo had issues with the GCB not appointing him as Demerara and Guyana Under-19 Manager. I would not like to get involved in this debate but at the same time cannot fail to relate the link.I am a qualified Umpire and an official scorer of the Guyana Cricket Board. I have been the Manager of the West Demerara Cricket Association’s winning Under-19 team for many years, while being the Demerara Under-19 Team Manager for the past three years. Over the past Five years I have also been the WDCA Competitions Chairman. I would humbly suggest that I know what is required to be around young minds as we strive to inculcate good habits. I would also not want to be ostracized because your reporter is lying.I am not prepared to be involved in Mr. Devers’ malicious reporting on cricket or his perceived vendetta against the GCB. I am prepared to state that Cricket in Guyana is in a better place than Five years ago.Mr. Editor, please do not allow your reporter to use this medium to settle his personal grievances.
Yours Sincerely,
Omar Hussain,Manager,
Demerara Under-19 Squad.

Letter to the Sports Editor…Devers Responds

Dear Editor,
I am responding to a letter in the Tuesday (June 06) issue of the Kaieteur News which accuses me of lying about what the Manager of the Demerara under-19 cricket team told me when I asked if he was aware that no vegetarian meal was sent for lunch for one of his players.
I believe the aim of the letter was to publicly embarrass me and damage my credibility. I never mentioned the name of the manager or said he or the GCB was to be blamed that the caterer did not send the lunch.
I was reporting on a fact that occurred at the Inter-County match so I don’t see the relevance of the Mr Hussain stating what he has achieved in the cricketing fraternity or about the Rohan Sarjoo issue with the GCB which has nothing to do with me.
He claimed I am using this newspaper to settle personal grievances when nothing in the story supports that claim.
I heard that the vegetarian meal for the youngster had not arrived and I asked Mr Hussain if he was aware that it had not been sent.
He said yes and I wrote, “It was confirmed by the Demerara Manager that Singh did not eat lunch since no Vegetarian meal was sent for him although this was in the 50-over competition” which is a fact.
I never said that the youngster did not eat at all, just that he did not eat during the lunch interval.
I don’t have any vendetta with the GCB. I just write about the good and the bad of cricket in Guyana and those who read the papers or listen to me on the Radio knows that.
I stand by what I wrote about Mr. Hussain confirming that the meal was not brought.
Sean Devers

Perhaps the most perplexing aspect of AT&T Stadium, otherwise known as “Jerry World,” is the glare from the sun that bursts through the windows and shines directly onto the field. Time and time again the glare has impacted players’ visibility during games, yet Jerry Jones refuses to make any changes to account for the sun.

Rather than install curtains, Jones has previously said he feels it’s a home-field advantage to have that type of stadium factor impacting games. Well, the glare ended up benefitting the Chiefs early into Thursday’s Thanksgiving game, as a pass from Dak Prescott to George Pickens fell incomplete, at least in part due to the impact of the sun’s glare.

SerenaThis batting performance by the West Indies in the second innings blew me away. I kept closing my eyes and then rubbing and opening them again and sat transfixed as I watch that unbelievable partnership between John Campbell and Shai Hope. What a magnificent performance by these two! It just goes to show that patience, determination and effort can go a long way to improve the performances of the West Indies team. Let us hope that this effort by West Indies batsmen would not be a one-off performance, but will be the beginning of a renewed effort to improve the performances of the team, going forward.(13.10.2025, 09:28)(09:28)0

"As a competitor, you want to be the starter. But I prepare to be the starter, I know I'm a starter in this league.

But you have to be able to be grateful for your role...my role right now is to assist Russ and Jaxson to be the best that they can be while preparing to be the best that I can be.

No matter if I'm 3, 33, this is my first year being number 19, so it's always a first for everything.
