NL reps call on Bassarath to refer sexual allegations to police

Representatives of the National League (NL) has called on the T&T Cricket Board (TTCB) to refer the complaint of sexual abuse by a TTCB coach from a young cricketer, to the police.

In a release sent on Friday evening, the NL representatives expressed their disappointment in the executives of the board saying: “The NL representatives place on record their deep disappointment, though not surprise, at the evasive response of the TTCB’s executives and Chief Executive Officer to a young cricketer’s formal complaint of sexual abuse by a TTCB coach.

“In response to this very serious criminal matter that should have been promptly reported to the police, president Azim Bassarath and his team have chosen to engage in an apparent cover-up.”

It continued, “Having failed to act on the cricketer’s complaint for close to six months, the TTCB president, vice presidents and CEO were finally forced to break their silence this week after details of the young cricketer’s letter of complaint were released by a journalist from St Vincent in Caribbean News Now, an online news site.”

The release went on to describe the press conference held by the TTCB last week, as a charade.

It said, “Bassarath and his executives including his CEO, Suruj Ragoonath called a media conference and promptly excluded the media by refusing to take questions from the journalists present. It was a display of the absolute arrogance that has come to be associated with Bassarath’s autocratic style of leadership and which must be denounced by everyone with a healthy respect for the role of the media in holding office-holders to account in a democratic society.”

The NL representatives stated that the police which is the only agency authorised to investigate allegations of criminal conduct and therefore the executives should immediately refer the matter as they are concerned about the impact of the executive’s attitude and inaction on the young man involved.

“We repeat our demand that the TTCB refer this matter to the police given the allegation of criminal conduct. We note that Bassarath and his team are now claiming that the allegations do not involve sexual misconduct. Given information made available to us, as well as the details published by Caribbean News Now, we are not prepared to accept the TTCB’s executive claim without evidence.

“In our view, any attempt to sweep this young man’s complaint under the carpet or coerce him to do otherwise amounts to complicity for which there should be serious consequences.”

The National League representatives are Dinanath Ramnarine, Daren Ganga, Samuel Badree, Andrew Lawrence, Camal Basdeo and Clint Pamphile.

T&TCB gets cracking appoints a committee , Hint President of T&TCB a member.

The alleged individual is a supporter of the President of the T&TCB and has a vote.

25 members can vote in an election. T&TCB allows the defeated 12 members to vote.

The T&TCB President has 12 votes to start the election of the new administration.

Now you know why this allegation must be stopped. That vote is required to keep
the present administrators in office.

Ramnarine has taken the T&TCB to court, the constitution that allows such is unconstitutional.

The T&T police is corrupt, nothing will be accomplished .
