Permaul, Motie combine to rout Jamaica Scorpions for 208

Left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul … claimed his 19th five-wicket haul in first class cricket and 300 wickets in the regional championship cricket and became the fifth bowler to take 300 wickets in the modern version of the Regional Four-Day Championship, to put Guyana Jaguars in control of their opening round game against Jamaica Scorpions at the Providence Stadium yesterday..
Defending their first innings total of 298, Jaguars bundled out Scorpions for an inadequate 208 in reply, with Permaul finishing with five for 60 and fellow left-arm spinner, Gudakesh Motie, picking up four for 61.
Together, they combined to wreck the visitors innings which appeared in great shape at 113 for one.

Opener John Campbell carried the fight for the visitors with 71 and Andre McCarthy got 36 but once Permaul and Motie got stuck in, wickets tumbled steadily with the last six collapsing for the addition of just 41 runs.
In their second turn at the crease, Jaguars were 26 without loss – an overall lead of 116 heading into the third day.
Earlier, captain and left-arm spinner Nikita Miller finished with four for 71 and seamer Derval Green, three for 72, as Jaguars managed to add only 19 runs after resuming on 279 for seven.

Left-hander Campbell then gave Scorpions the ideal start, posting 73 for the first wicket with hometown boy Trevon Griffith (20) and another 40 for the second wicket with Devon Thomas (20).
All told, the 23-year-old West Indies A batsman stroked ten fours in an entertaining 101-ball innings.
The introduction of Permaul and Motie saw Scorpions lose three wickets for 26 runs to slide to 139 for four but even then, McCarthy and Chadwick Walton (14) looked to be rebuilding in a fifth wicket partnership of 28.
But once Walton was lbw to Motie at 167 for five, the innings went into decline and never recovered.(CMC)
