LICB congratulates Joseph

The Leeward Islands Cricket Board (LICB) has offered congratulations to young Antiguan fast bowler, Alzarri Joseph on his signing of a retainer contract with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB).

Joseph is one of 12 players who has been retained by the WICB for the period ending September 2017.

In a release, the LICB listed Joseph’s accomplishments while hailing the player’s recent elevation.

“The Leeward Islands Cricket Board (LICB) would like to congratulate Alzarri Joseph on being one of the 12 players who has received a central contract with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) for a period of one year.

Central contracts for WICB male cricketers range from US$100,000 to US$150,000,” it read.

“Joseph has represented Antigua & Barbuda at the Under 13, under 15, under 19 and the senior team.  Joseph was also a member of the West Indies under 19 squad which captured the ICC Youth World Cup in Bangladesh earlier this year.  He played his first Test Match against India in August 2016.”

Joseph has played 10 first class matches for the Leeward Island Hurricanes. To date, he has taken 27 wickets with a best bowling performance of seven for 46. Joseph was part of the West Indies team which defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the third Test match in which Pakistan won 2-1,” the release said.

The LICB also highlighted the emphasis placed on the development of regional players by the WICB through its Professional Cricket League (PCL).

“There are 90 additional players on contract for the six franchises and their salaries range from US$15,600 to $30,000.

“The Digicel Sports Max 4-Day Professional Cricket League begins next Friday, November 11 to 14th  with the Leeward Island Hurricanes taking on the Barbados Pride at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium in St Kitts. The Super 50 is scheduled for January to February 2017,” it said.

Kieran Powell will captain the Leeward Island Hurricanes and his Vice Captain will be Rahkeem Cornwall.

Nineteen- year old Joseph landed a central contract along with 22-year-old batsman Shai Hope and 24-year-old left-arm spinner Jomel Warrincan who are all first time contracted players.
