Pakistan denied win over Somerset as Marcus Trescothick hits ton

Pakistan were denied a win on the final day of their three-day tour match against Somerset as ex-England batsman Marcus Trescothick scored a century.

Trescothick hit 106 as Somerset reached 258-8 in their second innings, batting out 73 overs to cling on to a draw with just two wickets remaining when the close of play was called.

Azhar Ali (101no) earlier hit a ton too for Pakistan as he and Asad Shafiq (69no) added 96 runs in the first 14.4 overs of play before the tourists declared on 236-4, setting Somerset an unlikely 468 to win.

Trescothick did not see it that way, racing through to a 105-ball century, receiving useful support from Tim Rouse (41) and James Hildreth (48), although when the former England opener fell, Somerset suddenly lost five wickets for 51 runs inside 20 overs.

Somerset managed to survive, number nine Jack Leach's unbeaten 35-ball stay proving vital to deny Pakistan's attack - Yasir Shah finishing with 4-107 and Mohammad Amir following up his three wickets in the first innings with 1-42.
