TT to face Windwards in Under-19 final

A NEW champion will be crowned when Trinidad and Tobago clash with Windward Islands in the Trinidad and Tobago Women Cricket Association (TT WCA) Under- 19 final at the National Cricket Centre (NCC), Balmain, Couva from 9.30 am. Simultaneously, the third-place decider between Barbados and Guyana will be staged at Gilbert Park, California.
And the presentation ceremony will be held at the NCC from 1 pm.
Yesterday morning, TT crushed dethroned champs Barbados by eight wickets in the final round-robin encounter at Couva to top the four-nation series. The hosts maintained their unbeaten record when, in the semi-final stage yesterday afternoon, they overpowered Guyana by nine wickets at the NCC.
In their semifinal match, TT spinners Reana Farrow (two wickets for five runs), Kamara Ragoobar (2/16), Leandra Ramdeen (1/
and Kajol Daljir (1/ were too good for the Guyana outfit as they were restricted to 56 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. Sheneta Grimmond made 19 for the visitors.
Skipper Reniece Boyce piloted her team to an easy win with an unbeaten 27 off 24 balls with four fours, while Shania Abdool made 15 as TT reached 57/2 in 9.4 overs.
The biggest surprise of the day were the Windwards outfit who registered a 14-run win over Guyana in their final round-robin match at Gilbert Park. The Windwards later returned to defeat Barbados by five wickets in the semi-final round at the California venue.
Extras were the chief contributor with 44 as Barbados were bowled out for 63 in 13.5 overs. R Sanford (2/5), Qiana Joseph (2/10) and A Alfred (2/12) were the main wicket- takers for the Windwards. Kimone Homer made 21 to help Windwards reach 64/5 in their response.
In the final round-robin match between Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago, the Bajans were bundled out for a paltry 29 in 15.1 overs with extras being the main contributor with 10, while skipper Hayley Matthews was dismissed for a duck.
Ramdeen was the chief destroyer with 3/8 while Renelle Dookie finished with 2/7.
In reply, TT cruised to 30/2 in 8.2 overs with Shania Abdool the topscorer with an unbeaten 20.
