T&TCB blanks meeting with zonal reps

Representatives of the North, South and South-West zones of the T&T Cricket Board (TTCB)  are unhappy over the cancellation of a special meeting which they requested with the Board.

The meeting, aimed at making amendments to the constitution, particularly the ability of six executives and as many nominated members the power to vote, was scheduled for yesterday but the board’s general secretary Arjoon Ramlal, in a letter on Wednesday, stated it could not be held because of a purported breach of Article 29 of the T&TCB’s constitution.

The representatives Winston Sobers, Chaitram Ramjitsingh and Ramesh Dharamdeo accused Ramlal of waiting on the eleventh hour to cancel. The members, who represent three of the seven zones, also lashed out at Ramlal and the board, accusing them of breach of the constitution. They pointed to Article 13.02 (ii) of the constitution which states; “The TTCB president and executive shall not have discretion in this matter.” 

The disgruntled representatives also make reference to Article “13.02” ‘Special Meeting’, which states;
(i) The general secretary must convene a Special General Meeting of the Board on receiving a requisition signed by a minimum of one third of the membership of the Board or a minimum of three of the zonal councils, stating clearly the business to be discussed
(ii) The president or the executive shall not have a discretion in this matter
(iii) Such special general meetings shall be called within 14 days of the receipt of such requisition
(iv) In urgent cases the president may summon a Special General Meeting.”
