Queen’s Park Cricket Club (QPCC) could collect their 15th title in seven years, this weekend, when they continue their TTCB Premiership battle with First Citizens Clarke Road at Wilson Road in Penal.

Starting the sixth round, 29 points ahead of Clarke Road, all Queen’s Park needs is first innings points in the current encounter.

Last Sunday was the opening day of the clash and Clarke Road batting first in the crucial encounter reached 117/4 of 33 overs in a rain affected game. When play resumes on Saturday, the Oval Boys will be looking to bowl out the home team cheaply and then try to overhaul their total.

Manager of the team Jeffrey Guillen in an interview with Guardian Media said: “We are very confident of getting our 15th title in seven years this coming weekend.

“The players are highly motivated and will be keen to get out and finish the job against Clarke Road with a round to go. The club is celebrating 125 years of existence and it will be very fitting to get the treble this year.”

Queen’s Park is on the verge of copping their third triple in six years. This season, they have already won the NGC T20 and the TTCB Premiership I 50 overs crown.

Guillen continued: “This Queen’s Park unit is well organised and kudos must go out to the administration of the cricket section led by Bryan Davis.

The coach David Furlonge has also done a wonderful job with this team and he must be commended. One thing this outfit has is discipline and it has led to tremendous success.

“Success breeds success and the players want this club to continue winning.

“If you look at our international players, they always show up to play for Queen’s Park when they are in the country. They know that they owe their success to Queen’s Park and they want to give back to the great sporting institution.”

Guillen who has reaped great success as manager added: “The club has a wonderful development programme from the nursery level up and you are seeing the results.

“Our development programme now and over the years has been so great, that Queen’s Park remains the club in the Caribbean that has produced most national and West Indies players.

“The developmental aspect goes way back to 1956 when my dad Noel Guillen started the coaching school. It was then taken over by Bryan Davis and now his son Gregory Davis is in charge.”

Guillen added that the success the club is now seeing, comes from their successful under-21 team from a couple years ago.

“We had a very successful under-21 team and this team has been basically kept together under captain Justin Guillen and they continue to win and make this club proud.

“The players know that they have to be at the top of their game in order to keep their spot on the team and this competitiveness has made a quality unit.

“Some years ago the club decided to invest in a full time cricket administrator in Davis and a full time coach in Furlonge and they are making sure that the clubs gets value.”

In recent years Queen’s Park has produced the likes of Sunil Narine, Keiron Pollard, Darren Dravo, Dwayne Bravo, Kevon Cooper, Akeal Hosein and Justin Guillen.  Jeffrey Guillen
