QPCC II takes Premiership crown

Queen’s Park Cricket Club continues to flex their muscles in domestic cricket and their second team showed just how good men from Tragarete Road are, as they defeated Central Sports by 113 runs to capture the TTCB Premiership II crown on Friday night at the National Cricket Centre (NCC) in Balmain, Couva.
Queen’s Park, batting first, tallied 292 for nine of 50 overs batting first and Central Sports could reply with only 174 runs all out—handing the Oval boys a massive win and the title. Last evening Queen’s Park I was battling with Alescon Comets for the right to be named TTCB Premier I champs.
West Indies U-19 batsman, Kirstan Kallicharan, with a spanking 70 led the way for Queen’s Park who was sent in by Central Sports. He faced 90 balls and struck seven fours in his innings and looked very good. He got support from a number of other batsmen, as QPCC looked focused on winning.
Opener Jordan Warner slammed 43 of 55 balls. Terrence Hinds smacked three sixes in 46 of 51 balls and all-rounder Ricardo Paty smoked 40 of 31 balls with two fours and two sixes. Just as Central Sports thought that the beating was over, Mikel Riley needed just 10 balls to record 21.
The best of the bowlers for Central Sports were Windward Islander Alex Antoine 3/49 and spinner Arshard Mohammed 2/37.
Chasing a mammoth 293 runs for victory, Central Sports were always behind the eight ball and it showed in the end. Antoine and Kamil Pooran made a decent start of 44 at the top of the order but Parkites struck back through Paty. The right-arm seamer grabbed 3/21 and Miley and Darren Deonarine each nabbed three wickets, as Central tumbled for 174.
At 90 for one, Central Sports was right in the game but lost their last nine wickets for 84 runs. Pooran made 38, Jahron Alfred scored 32, Antoine 21 and Troy Cornelius 26.
