New Zealand have moved to the top of the T20I rankings for the first time following the ICC's annual update. The new cycle disregarded results from the 2012-13 season and therefore West Indies, who won their first Twenty20 championship in 2012, lost points and have dropped one place down to No. 3.

New Zealand have 132 points, having played their first World T20 semi-final since 2007. India also have 132 points, but New Zealand were ahead by a factor of 0.21 when decimal points were taken into consideration.

South Africa have been ranked No. 4 and World T20 2016 finalist England rounded off the top five.

In ODIs, Australia and New Zealand, who played the final of the 2015 World Cup, occupy the top two spots. South Africa have moved up a spot to No. 3, exchanging places with India.

Sri Lanka, England and Bangladesh have kept their fifth, sixth and seventh positions, while West Indies edged Pakistan for the No. 8 slot.

Afghanistan have been ranked No. 10 in ODIs, ahead of Zimbabwe and Ireland, and No. 9 in T20Is. They continue to be the only Associate member among the top ten teams in limited-overs cricket.

Following the annual update of the rankings, results from the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons were weighed in at 50%. Maximum weightage has been retained for the 2015-16 season.

The top seven teams in ODIs on September 30, 2017, along with hosts England, will automatically qualify for the 2019 World Cup. So all 50-over matches from now until the cut-off date will receive 100% weightage.

The bottom four teams in the ODI rankings will play a qualifying tournament with the top Associate teams from the World Cricket League in 2018 to determine the final two spots for the next World Cup.

ODI rankings 1 Australia (124 points), 2 New Zealand (113), 3 South Africa (112), 4 India (109), 5 Sri Lanka (104), 6 England (103), 7 Bangladesh (98), 8 West Indies (88), 9 Pakistan (87), 10 Afghanistan (51), 11 Zimbabwe (47), 12 Ireland (42)

T20I rankings 1 New Zealand (132 points), 2 India (132), 3 West Indies (122), 4 South Africa (119), 5 England (114), 6 Australia (110), 7 Pakistan (104), 8 Sri Lanka (98), 9 Afghanistan (78), 10 Bangladesh (74), 11 Netherlands (67), 12 Zimbabwe (58), 13 Scotland (57), 14 UAE (54), 15 Ireland (48), 16 Oman (37), 17 Hong Kong (29)

The West Indies Cricket team's position on the Test  and OdIs chart are very much  less than desirable. This has been the case for many years and it seem's this situation will not change anytime soon. West Indies bask the glory of their T20 exploit. However, the have become  alarmingly inept when it comes to the other versions of the game. It's so disheartening to see that there is no immediate hope of improvement to the negative performances in Tests and ODIs. What is happening is that there is an abundance pointing, accusations, and insularity which is not helping to solve the problems.
