Harsha Bhogle removed from IPL commentary

The BCCI has opted to remove Harsha Bhogle from the broadcast team at this years IPL, largely in part for his on-air criticism of certain Indian players and choosing to provide objective insights during the recent T20 World Cup instead of biased commentary towards the hosts.

If true, the BCCI comes off looking very petty here. A shame also as I rate Harsha as a pretty decent commentator. We need more commentators that aren't afraid to be honest and criticise players when need be. It would appear, however, that many Indian players have thin skin and the BCCI have acted accordingly and only want cheerleaders in the booth.

Do the arrogant Indians not know that commentators have to be objective and not partisan?


Whoever this Bachchan chappy is has stirred things up but importantly the BCCI has taken heed.

Bogle is not my cup of tea but have found him a very good commentator.

I don't know what to make of this Harsha Bhogle thing. Most people seem to think its a matter of journalistic independence. Bizarre.

By that style condone the madness 

This has happened before and many commentators have come to the fore. The BCCI heavily censors what can be said on air. Their commentators are required to not criticise any Indian player or board decisions. If they do they are released from their contracts. Even foreign commentators have reported in the independent media that they were told not to make any negative comments towards the Indian board and their selection of players.

The last line is the best. I truly believe that not only cricketers, but any sportsman/woman should be prepared and accepting of any criticism they received. Their job performance is open for review as with anyone. Yes, their reviews are for more public than most, but that is why they get paid more money than most.

The same goes for any sporting body. If you perform sub bar be prepared to be called out. Rather than trying to censor and silence the critics they should take criticism as a positive and use it to improve their performance.
