Bowling action of Sunil Narine found to be legal - Cricket News Narine was reported during the third One Day International against Sri Lanka on 7 November 2015 in Pallekele and subsequently banned.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) today confirmed that following remedial work and retest, the bowling action of the West Indies’ Sunil Narine has been found to be legal, and the off-spinner can now resume bowling in both international cricket and domestic cricket events worldwide.

At the retest, it was revealed that the amount of elbow extensions in Narine’s bowling action for all his deliveries that were tested was within the 15-degree level of tolerance permitted under the ICC regulations for the review of bowlers reported with suspected illegal bowling actions.

The umpires are free to report Narine in the future if they believe he uses a suspect action.

The retest was performed at the Sri Ramachandra University in Chennai on 28 March.

Narine featured for the KKR today and although didn't pick up a wicket bowled four very economical overs. His remodelled action looked pretty good, though rather interestingly, he tossed the ball up more than I have seen in recent years.

Yes his speed was down on his normal 90kmh and he did not turn it as much, therefore it would be interesting to see how he bowls on his home ground which is a turner.


I will reserve judgement until he has had an opportunity to have a number of games.


I do recall a Safer who clearly chucked but was never called but either way I blame the administrators, whoever they may be, for allowing bowlers to progress through their age groups and beyond without a fuller appreciation for the rules.


It must be impossible to retrain after so many years of a familiar action.


Sunil will do well to continue his success with his remodelled action as I cannot recall anyone who has managed it, well no spinners anyway.


I know Lille did remodel his action and continued his success,malthough at reduced pace.


Best of luck to him but as a cricketer you have a fair idea if your action is a bit suspect.

Much like yourself, I can't recall any spinners that have come back successfully after being forced to remodel their action. You only have to look at how ineffective Saaed Ajmal has been with his remodelled action to see how difficult it is to start over again. Off the top of my head, Johan Botha, Pragyan Ojha and Sachithra Senanayake are three others that were banned and forced into changing their action with little to no success.
