Jamaica Scorpions head coach Junior Bennett calm about future

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Jamaica Scorpions head coach Junior Bennett says he is not concerned about his future despite the side’s recent poor run of results.

The home side welcome Barbados Pride for the eighth round clash in the Regional four-day championship this weekend, on the backs of two consecutive defeats.

“I am not worried,” Bennett told the Gleaner newspaper.

“Anytime you play cricket and dominate for a period of time, you are going to have a time when you just have to rebuild.”

Scorpions, on 60 points, still lie third in the standings behind Pride, on 90 points, and leaders and title-holders Guyana Jaguars on 107 points.

However, the two losses have seen them drop further behind the front two and virtually diminish any hope of making up ground with three rounds remaining.

Their slide began with a shock loss to bottom dwellers Leeward Islands Hurricanes in the sixth round and continued last week when they were soundly beaten by Trinidad and Tobago Red Force.

They have now lost four times this season.

Bennett, the long-serving coach of the Jamaica senior team, said while he took responsibility for the side’s form, he would continue working as normal towards improvement.

“If you are the coach of the side and they are not playing well, then you have to take responsibility for it,” Bennett noted.

“But, in life, just you just have to do what you have to do. That’s the way I see it. That’s the way I work. You are going to have good times and bad times.”

Jamaica dominated the first class competition between 2007 and 2011, winning every single title in the five-year period.

They finished fifth in the inaugural season of the Professional Cricket League last year.
