TRINIDAD AND Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) president Azim Bassarath has vehemently denied being the sender of an alleged e-mailed letter that surfaced recently on a local radio station and was being circulated on social media yesterday.

The email was a response to a story on Cricinfo last November on the suspension of top local off-spinner Sunil Narine for a suspected illegal bowling action. The alleged e-mail, sent to 10 officials in the local cricketing fraternity, was critical of Narine’s bowling action and seemed to suggest that he needs to now start bowling properly.

He was not turning much in (the) first place!!!” But, in a media release from the TTCB, it was adamantly professed:“ Bassarath wishes to totally disassociate himself from the alleged e-mail currently making the rounds and which is being pronounced upon to suggest that it is authentic.” And Bassarath insisted that he “reserves the right to seek legal recourse to clear his name should the alleged email be attributed to him in reports carried in the local media.” Yesterday’s email entitled ‘E-mail link denied” was sent by the TTCB media officer and also addressed to account This email address is being protected from spambots. However, Dr Allen Sammy, first vice-president of the TTCB and one of the 10 officials that the email was allegedly sent to said he doesn’t remember receiving an email from Bassarath on November 29 last year on the topic.

“I don’t have that,” he said. “I don’t recall.

“Too much mischief does be going on (in local cricket) and everyone knows who does it.” Efforts to contact other officials were unsuccessful.
