ST JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – Doubt surrounds the involvement of Youth World Cup heroes Alzarri Joseph and Keacy Carty in the remainder of the Leeward Islands Hurricanes’ campaign in the Regional four-day championship.
The pair returned to the Caribbean on Tuesday but have not been included in an unchanged Hurricanes squad to face Windward Islands Volcanoes in their seventh round game at the Cancryn Ground in St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands.
And coach Reginald Benjamin told the Antigua Observer while the selectors would discuss the matter, the duo would not be automatic selections.
“I am not saying none of these guys can make it but the selections committee has to sit down and look at the reality of it,†Benjamin said.
“In a lot of cases, it is easy to say this guy has to come in, but I am sure the selection committee would make the right decision.â€
Joseph was outstanding during the just concluded Youth World Cup in Bangladesh, bowling with pace and consistency to bag 13 wickets for the tournament.
Prior to that outing, he was also the leading bowler for Hurricanes with 17 wickets at an average of 15 runs apiece.
Carty, meanwhile, is yet to make his first class debut but made a significant impact at the Youth World Cup especially in the final, where his unbeaten half-century took West Indies to victory against India.
Hurricanes scored their first win of the first class championship in the last round when they defeated by 85 runs.
