Guillen sparks Queen’s Park victory

Defending TT CB National League Premier I 50-Over champions, Queen’s Park Cricket Club (QPCC) extended their unbeaten streak to three wins in as many matches after romping to a healthy 139-run victory over Jailal Enterprises Victoria United when round three action bowled off at home in the Queen’s Park Oval, Port-of- Spain, yesterday.
Winning the toss, the Parkites opted to take first strike and were led to a tally of 316 for six courtesy a captain’s knock of 141 from opening batsman Justin Guillen. Guillen smashed 10 fours and five sixes in 148 balls and was ably supported by Darren Bravo (81) and Petrock Nicholas’ (42). Satrohan Rambaran was Victoria United’s best bowler as he finished on three for 69, grabbing the wickets of Bravo, Nicholas Pooran (0) and Terrence Hinds (12).
In their turn at the crease, the visitors had a shaky start, losing opener Lincoln Roberts with just three runs on the board. Marcelle James, however, continued on to smash an unbeaten 102 for the Victoria unit. His efforts though, went in vain, as they capitulated for just 177 in 43.5 overs with Victoria’s final five wickets going down for just 14 runs.
Marlon Barclay was the pick of the bowlers for QPCC, picking up four for 28 while Dwayne Smith bagged three for 28. Javon Searles also snagged two for 14.
Meanwhile, Merry Boys prevented PowerGen from achieving their third win, travelling to Penal to secure a crucial 63-run win. Batting first, the Diego Martin boys were dismissed for just 197 in 38.5 overs with Aneil Kanhai (53) leading the charge. He was supported by Samuel Felix (37) and Isaiah Rajah (31).
Royston Crandon kept the visiting bastmen at bay with his spell of five for 17 while Kavesh Kantasingh snatched two for 28.
Chasing a gettable 198 for victory, PowerGen were unable to capitalise on their home advantage, all out for 134 in 37.1 overs. Videsh Sookhai (54) showed the most resistance with the bat but spells of three for 25 from Ricky Jaipaul and two for 15 from Kanhai proved pivotal.
