West Indies U19 just beat India Under19 by 5 wickets to win the World Cup. They were set to chase just 146 after Indian batting collapsed on a green wicket when Alzarri Joseph making them suffer by picking up the first three wickets cheaply. Sarfarz Khan managed to pull them back but they were able to set only 145. The West Indies began slowly and steadily but lost a few wickets to spin and false shots along the way, reducing to 77-5. But Keachy Carty and Keemo Paul showed tremendous grit and determination to carry them over the line, but only just with 3 balls remaining.

Wow. To win in those conditions is pretty impressive, especially considering how horrendous their warm-up games were.

I only watched the first three thirds of this last final and didn't see any of the previous games.

I liked the enthusiasm of the team. When on the field they were constantly heckling, chirping, clapping, diving about, pressuring the batsmen and their fielding had serious urgency. They kept themselves pumped and only marginally lapsed in concentration between the 22nd and 32nd overs.

The international team can learn alot from these guys. You have to be aggresively enthusiastic and you have to maintain it. Games run away from you when you let up.

I thought the bowling was very good. Alzarri Joseph and Chemar Holder in particular, the latter hitting 140 kph at some points. That's real fast for a 17 year old.

The batting I saw was very very poor (I stopped watching when it looked like they would lose), aside from Keemo Paul who batted responsibly. That Pope guy has been much hyped. He looked a generic cowlasher to me. I liked Imlach, the Guyanese keeper. He hasn't been good with the bat, but I've never seen a gloveman so often try to stump a batsman off pace bowling. His aggression was unnerving all the Indian batsmen.

Springer was cool too, good with bat, ball and a very good fielder. In fact, all these guys were fielding impressively. I don't know who their coach is, but that was some seriously good fielding, anticipation and field setting. Some of those kids were taking Jonty Rhodes level diving catches/saves.

The fact that the West Indies main strike bowlers were all seamers made this World Cup win even more impressive for me, especially as this tournament took place in the sub-continent.  It was also nice to see that the players all chipped in throughout the tournament - they didn't just rely on one player to carry them every match. Although Alzarri Joseph was the standout player throughout, I was also impressed by Springer, Paul and Holder.
