Most of the people would not know that this 20-year-old son of a wire factory worker is perhaps India's fastest bowler at present. Nathu averages around 140 kmph in a spell and at times even touches 145 kmph – a thing that is not so common in India.
He is fast and is described as India's fast bowling future by legends Rahul Dravid and Glenn McGrath. With just 6 first-class matches under your belt, who expects you to catch a selector's attention? But Nathu is making the right kind of noises in the domestic cricketing circle.
While picking him in the India Board XI squad to face South Africa for a two-day warm-up match last year, chairman of selectors Sandeep Patil said the boy had ‘the X-Factor’ that selectors always search for. And that spark in Nathu was also noticed by none other than Dravid. And today, even the IPL wants him badly.
