Shiv is a legend of West Indies cricket. Look at the time and hours he spent at the crease for the West Indies and it is truly remarkable,” said Deonarine.

He continued, “I know it must have been tough on him or any cricketer coming to the end of their career to finally consider the word retirement. Growing up I always looked up to Shiv even when the West Indies had batsmen like Brian Lara as I was coming through the system. I wish him well in this new chapter of his life and success in his future endeavors.”

The 32-year-old described Chanderpaul as an assassin of bowlers and gave some fascinating insight into the legend’s cricketing IQ.

“Sometimes I would sit and talk to Shiv about cricket and he makes the game sound very easy and simple. The way he talks about batting and the manner in which he analysed how bowlers would try and attack a batsman showed his intellect.
