Teamwork,’ discipline, main reason for Jaguars’ success- Johnson

THE Guyana Jaguars is a team which surely doesn’t believe in the individual milestones of players. Rather, its members are focused on integrating well as a team and gelling closely. The premier reason behind their profound success during the first half of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Professional Cricket League (PCL) Regional four-day tournament has been that they have played extremely well as a team.
The players have complimented each other well, and by doing their tasks with ease, it has just made life easier for the other members. At least this is what the team captain, Leon Johnson feels.
Johnson in an exclusive interview has attributed teamwork and discipline for the team’s success so far.
“Teamwork obviously is the main attribute for our success, but having said that, I think we were well disciplined in all three departments of the game, batting, bowling, and fielding. We never rely on any particular player in the batting or bowling.
Everyone has got a responsibility and each delivers when called upon,” Johnson said.
The Guyana Jaguars has raked up five outright wins in as many matches, and are on top of the points table with 85 points, 22 points ahead of Barbados Pride.
However, while Johnson has hailed teamwork, he had some special words for left-arm spinner Gudekash Motie.
The 20-year-old in his debut season is the leading wicket taker, with 34 scalps, inclusive of four five-wicket hauls and a ten-wicket haul.
“Motie has done well. He has shown that he belongs to First-Class cricket. He has gelled with the team perfectly in the absence of Bishoo,” Johnson pointed out.
Meanwhile, the second half of the tournament resumes after the conclusion of the NAGICO Super 50 tournament, which will be played between January 7 and 24.(GUYANACHRONICLE)
