Rajendra Chandrika and Devendra Bishoo obtained central contracts from the WICB, making room for two Guyana Jaguars contracts. Vishaul Singh has been elevated from a ‘C’ contract to a ‘B’ while Gudakesh Motie and Steven Jacobs have been awarded ‘C’ contracts.

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, (CMC) – Guyana Jaguars batsman Vishaul Singh is keen on forcing his way into the West Indies Test squad but said he is aware his present form needs to continue if he is to break into international cricket.The 26-year-old left-hander has hit back-to-back centuries in the last two rounds to help propel Jaguars to three wins in as many outings, and to the top of the standings in the Regional First Class Championship.
“My goal is to score as much runs as possible this season. When the tournament began, my goal was 700 runs and to play a meaningful role in helping Guyana to retain the title,” he told Kaieteur News.
“I won’t put a time frame on how far I am away from Test cricket but if I am to be selected in the near future I know that will only happen if I continue to score heavily at the regional level and make a case for myself.”
Vishaul opened the season with scores of 48 and 24 against Windward Islands Volcanoes but then carved out a superb 150 against the hapless Leeward Islands Hurricanes in the second round and 121 against Barbados Pride in the recent third round.
He has now piled up 343 runs from four innings at an average of 85. Last season, he gathered 479 runs at an average of nearly 40.
Vishaul said the main reason behind title-holders Jaguars extending their success into this season was the maturity of the squad.
“The squad has now matured with the average age being 27 with Shiv’s (Chanderpaul) experience being beneficial to everyone plus we are playing as team, we are comfortable with each other,” Vishaul explained.
Jaguars have been convincing. They beat Volcanoes by 104 runs in the first round, followed up with a thumping innings and 35-run victory over Hurricanes before hammering Pride by nine wickets on Monday.
They have 53 points, 19 clear of the second placed Jamaica Scorpions.

FRONT-runners and reigning champions, Guyana Jaguars will look to run away with the lead, when the WICB Professional Cricket League Regional 4-Day Tournament resumes tomorrow following the early-season break.The Jaguars played outside of their home territory for the first time this season, travelling to Port-of-Spain, where they will face hosts and joint third-place side Trinidad & Tobago Red Force in a crucial fourth round match at Queen’s Park Oval.

At the same time, the second-placed Jamaica Scorpions will try to keep the leaders within reach, when they host Leeward Islands Hurricanes, and Windward Islands Volcanoes and Barbados Pride aim to get their seasons back on track when they meet in Grenada.
