Jacobs, Reifer bowl Guyana Jaguars to 104-run victory |

STEVEN Jacobs and Raymon Reifer produced a superb bowling performance to lead Guyana Jaguars to an emphatic 104-run victory over the Windward Islands Volcanoes when their 2015-16 WICB Professional Cricket League (PCL) Regional 4-day first match wrapped up at the Guyana National Stadium, yesterday.Off-spinner Jacobs and the left-arm seamer Reifer claimed 4-35 and 4-41 respectively, as the defending champions bowled out the Windwards for 125 in 46.1overs.
Chasing 230 for victory, Liam Sebastien (36) and Miles Bascombe (36) were the only two significant scorers for the visitors.
The Volcanoes began the day in confident mood after restricting Jaguars to 95 at stumps in their second innings on the third day.
However, they got a taste of a pitch which favoured spin even more as the days went by. Tyrone Theophile (4) was the first to fall, out lbw to Reifer then Devon Smith (11) edged one to Leon Johnson at second slip off Jacobs. Volcanoes were 36-2.
Reifer followed up with three quick wickets as Keddy Lesporis (2), Sunil Ambris (0) and Dalton Polius (0) to leave Windwards in shambles as the lunch interval drew near.
Gudakesh Motie (1-7) trapped Bascombe on the second ball of the left-arm spinner’s first over of the morning, Volcanoes were reeling at 63-6. Kyle Mayers (
was beaten for pace and bowled by Ronsford Beaton, reducing Volcanoes to 76-7 at lunch.
Jacobs continued to press after lunch and claimed the wicket of the Volcanoes captain Liam Sebastien who was caught a deep backward-square, breaking a 45-run partnership he featured with Shillingford (14). Shillingford fell to Jacobs to give him his third then Kenroy Peters (4) became his final victim.
The match commenced last Friday with the Jaguars posting 362 in their first innings after winning the toss and batting first. Rajendra Chandrika was the chief scorer, slamming his maiden first-class ton of 146. Shillingford picked up 6-107 for the Volcanoes.
In reply, Volcanoes were held to 228 as Devon Smith top-scored with 52. Guyana folded on 95, in their second innings to add to their lead of 134. Shillingford again claimed 5-36, to finish the match with 11 wickets.
Guyana will now prepare for the second round against the Leeward Islands, November 13-16 at the Guyana National Stadium.
