Sri Lanka Cricket says Windies tour will incur 4.5 million dollar loss

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, CMC-Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has revealed that the current series against West Indies will incur a financial loss estimated to be around 4.5 million dollars.

West Indies have already lost the opening test of the series which comprise two Test matches, three ODIs and two T20s.

Television rights are considered the biggest earner, but the SLC says it will have to absorb the loss since West Indies no longer attract top dollar.

“Having this tour take place here is a colossal loss. You see the main source of income for these tours come from the broadcasting rights. In terms of this, there are teams that bring you good money, and then there are teams that bring you lesser amounts,” said Carlton Bernadus, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) operations manager.

“With a series consisting of two Test matches, three ODIs and two T20s, we will spend about 200 million Sri Lankan rupee. We might be able to recover about half of this, so the loss is in the range of 100 million rupees.”

Sri Lanka Cricket says it is allowing fans to attend free of charge to see the Test matches despite the overall loss.

The second Test begins tomorrow in Colombo.

Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

good blow! look out!

west indies touring about to come to an end.  they are dead loss.  who the hell wants to see Spope and Paint open with a bunch of non-entities to follow, with Plollard and Big Bravo out, no Gayle..nutten

the cricket world knows Kayle, Pollard and Big Bravo..even Ramdin, Narine.  who the hell is lil Jase Holder ::confused::  what has he done of note, what of note can he do.  he is a big lackey di'ze all

skunt skameron will soon find out.  let him take his bureaucracy o tour.  maybe people will pay to stone them...or pay to see them stoned

Tony Cozier wrote about the dwindling television rights prior to the first Test. I think in fairness it's not just the West Indies that are no longer a big draw but the same can be said about this young Sri Lanka team missing a number of their all time great players which will impact attendance at the matches and likely the price of the TV rights. The income from the TV rights for the series against West Indies is almost the same as Sri Lanka's series against Pakistan.

good point Dilly..  I pull back a bit but the state of the west indies does not help.

few are interested anymore..enough to pay to see Skamerons neo liberal bureaucrats on the field.

at some point the bureaucrat's dream of a wicb riding all manner of revenue streams no matter the quality of the game we play will dry up and that structure collapses

the wicb bureaucracy needs a compliant team, which means a team like the one we have now that provides no opposition at all..which means of course that player interests no go entirely unrepresented in the scheme of things. the players all now young, inexperienced and rudderless with no option but to do what they are told, surrounded by structures that work entirely for the wicb..like the players union.. that has now been comprehensively subverted and neutered

the wicb expects that sponsorship will be maintained in perpetuity, that money will flow from the ICC, from the BCCI, from commissions on players in the various global T20 leagues...from domestic T20, from TV rights, from tours etc..a flow of revenue now unaffected by player demands..players who are now totally under control and repressed and underpaid..slave wages really

all of this to pay the bureaucracy huge salaries the amounts of which salaries are never disclosed.

that is Whycliff's mission which he is well on the way to achieving

Well I don't know why they don't charge a small fee for the test matches in order to reduce the overall money that is lost or they could seek some more sponsors. West Indies are no longer worth watching in any form of cricket expect t20 and occasionally odi.
