JAMAICA FRANCHISE OFFICIALLY NAMED SCORPIONS

Jamaica's franchise cricket team has officially been named the Jamaica Scorpions.

The board of directors of the Jamaica Cricket Franchise Development Limited (JCFDL) made the announcement yesterday. According to the release, the name was decided on at a board meeting led by board chairman, Don Wehby, on September 30 at GraceKennedy's Harbour Street headquarters.

In explaining how the board decided on this name, Mr Wehby said,

"We wanted a name that was exciting, something to suggest that the team was hardy, adaptable and survivors by nature. We also wanted to convey that the team also has a 'sting' in their game. The name 'scorpions' conveyed all of these characteristics and so we thought it was perfect for the team."

I think the Jamaica mosquitoes would have been a better name for a team that is very determined and can cause great amount of damage even though it may appear so small and harmless. 8)
