It was confirmed this morning that Hales will indeed replace Lyth in the Test squad to face Pakistan in the UAE. Lyth can feel slightly hard done by. He should have made his debut against West Indies, instead he was thrown in at the deep end to face New Zealand and Australia. Still, he really struggled with his technique and playing too many loose shots in the matches he played and so it is understandable that the selectors looked elsewhere.

England Test squad

Cook (c), Hales, Bell, Root, Bairstow, Stokes, Buttler (wk), Ali, Wood, Broad, Anderson, Finn, Rashid, Ansari, Taylor, Plunkett.

One-day squad: Morgan (c), Ali, Bairstow, Billings, Buttler, Finn, Hales, Rashid, Root, Roy, Taylor, Topley, Willey, Woakes, Wood.

T20 squad: Morgan (c), Ali, Billings, Buttler, Hales, Jordan, Parry, Rashid, Root, Roy, Topley, Vince, Willey, Woakes, Wood.
