Moeen Ali and Woakes recalled, Root, Anderson and Broad rested for ODI series

Joe Root, Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad will all be rested for the one-off T20 and one-day series against Australia. Rather surprisingly there is also no room in either side for Jonny Bairstow. However, both Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes return to both squads. On a personal note, I am glad to see James Vince included in the T20 squad, he has been brilliant in short-form cricket for Hampshire this year.

These selectors are letting a bit of success this summer get to their heads.How can you have Roy and Billings in the ODI team ahead of Bairstow?
They are just hit and miss players.Despite the runs he scores for Yorkshire,why doesn't he make the cut.

Against all odds, this England squad beat the mighty New Zealand team in both the ODI and T20 series earlier this summer. As much as it was tough to leave Bairstow out, he hasn't played in any of the Royal London Cup matches this year, plus I think it is only fair to reward Roy and Billings for the teams success by keeping them in the squad. Personally, I would have preferred Bairstow to Billings in the T20 squad, but I can understand why he was included.

Jason Roy showed why he deserves to be in the ODI setup with a wonderful century for Surrey in the quarter-final of the Royal London Cup yesterday. Sangakkara also played for but struggled, scoring just 15 from 30 balls, though all's well that ends well for Surrey as they advanced into the semi-finals over Kent.

Perhaps the most remarkable feat in this game was Matt Coles scoring his maiden List A hundred batting at number 9 for Kent!

In the other quarter-final, Reece Topley gave the selectors a firm prod as he picked up 4-wickets for Essex in a losing effort against Yorkshire.
