Bravo flies to B’dos to meet Simmons

West Indies coach Phil Simmons has not turned his back on the senior players and has been negotiating with them to return to the Test team.  West Indies all rounder and T&T Red Steel captain Dwayne Bravo flew to Barbados last weekend  to meet with Simmons to discuss his future in the regional set-up.

The pair met during the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) T20 tournament in Barbados but on that occasion Bravo said that the conditions were not right  to return. Bravo and Keiron Pollard have been sidelined since the aborted tour of India last October. Bravo was removed as captain of the ODI team and lost his place in the side. Pollard also lost his place but both were selected in a T20 series against South Africa earlier this year, prior to the ODI World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

The West Indies next international assignment is against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka where they will play two Test matches, three ODIs and two T20 matches from October 1 to November 13 and Simmons is trying to lure his senior players back. The meeting between Bravo and Simmons was cordial but the pair was not able to move closer to a deal.

At the end of the first meeting, Bravo said that the deal they were getting from the WICB was worse than what they left India for, as players were getting around US$5,000 per Test which was much less than what they earned before the last MOU signed between the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) and the WICB.

This figure has not been re-negotiated and as such the situation remains stagnant. The West Indies team may well have to do without the services of some senior players for the tour to Sri Lanka, as they look to continue the process of re-building under Simmons, the former Ireland coach.

Dwayne Bravo is not a test player and so I don't know why Simmons wants to meet with him about playing test cricket. Why not meet with Shiv and give him his final test tour against Sri Lanka?

Denesh Ramdin (West Indies)

Ramdin doesn’t seem like a guy who could inspire a team to return their library books on time, much less win a game of cricket.

A cautious, ambition-free, grudge-bearing captain whose occasional wins have come almost by accident, ....

the more you beat up the Trickys the more I like them...my guys...Brabits, Polly Pieces and Dinesh.  those are 3 fine young men there dealing effectively with the current rotten west indian cricket dispensation and doing very well for themselves.

I looked at Brabits devastating, teeth filled smile in the photo this mawnin' embraced by the head in one of Pollys huge hands...a terrific picture, pure fun and sane happiness..not manic and crazy like jam and whine..and only a great happy feeling washed over me to see those 2 guys there.  the Indians dont like them for nothing.  they are solid attractions just the way they are, attracting people like flies even if they are not Sobers and Kanhai.

you can like what the hell you like.  you free!  but look the men an dem deh, all faves of the people.
