A West Indies Cricket Board Under-15 Invitational squad will leave the region for a tour of the United Kingdom beginning next week, leaving on Wednesday, 19 August.
That team already included 2014 Saint Lucia national under-15 captain, Johnel Eugene, the top scorer in last year’s regional age group competition, along with fellow opening batsman, Dane Edward.
Now news has come through that a third Saint Lucian has been added to the squad, though it is unclear whether he is replacing another player, or if he takes the total composition of the party to 15.
The young man in question is Kimani Melius, the captain of this year’s under-15 national team and Windward Islands team, and top scorer in regional age group competition, held in Guyana last month.
Kimani, aged 14, attends the Babonneau Secondary School, for whom he hit the highest individual score by any batsman in the history of Saint Lucian cricket, 275, during the 2015 school cricket season.
He also played for the Windward Islands Under-17 in July, ending with the third-best average for his team, despite missing out on two matches through illness.
Alton Crafton, who is Kimani’s coach, says: “The WICB Northern Cluster Grass Roots Cricket Programme, to which Kimani Melius is affiliated with, would like to congratulate Kimani on his achievement and wishes him all the best on tour.â€

The tour, which runs from 21-31 August, has been organised following an invitation from the England Barmy Army Colts. The tour includes a series of limited-overs matches comprising 50-, 45- and 20-over cricket, including an opportunity to play at the spiritual home of the game, Lord’s.
