Jake Doran should make Test debut at The Oval, says Stuart MacGil

FORMER Test bowler Stuart MacGill has called on Australia to make one of the biggest selection gambles in Ashes history by calling up teenager Jake Doran to make his Test debut at The Oval.

Doran is currently in England captaining Australia’s Under 19 side in a Youth Ashes series.

The 18-year-old has been touted as one of the hottest prospects in Australian cricket and was the subject of a bidding war that saw him plucked from New South Wales’ grasp by Tasmania, but he remains an extremely raw talent who is still yet to play first-class cricket.

However MacGill believes now is the ideal time to blood the talented left-handed batsman in the harsh light of Ashes cricket.
