I was sad to see that Sangakkara confirmed his decision to retire from Test cricket this summer. He won't play in the final Test of the Pakistan series in Pallekele but will play the first two Test matches against India in August.

I was hoping that he would reconsider his retirement. He has long been one of my favourite batsman to watch and is still playing at an extremely high level, averaging 50.75 over the last 12 months in Tests and 64.96 over the last 2 years.

I would love to see Sanga notch one more double-ton to match Don Bradman's total of 12.

It is best that Sangakkara leave the test arena in order to prolong his t20 career. Sangakkara is a great t20 player and him not playing test cricket just means that he will not be exposed to the risks of injuries associated with test cricket.

Injuries happen in all form of cricket. Eddie Leie just injured himself warming up in the nets and was forced to miss the Zouks last match against the Tallawahs as a result. Dilshan took a nasty blow from Kemar Roach that forced him to retire hurt. Rory Burns and Moises Henriques both suffered horrifying injuries during Surrey's recent T20 match against Sussex. These were all within the last fortnight in T20 games.
