MICHAEL Clarke and David Warner could reportedly be offered $50 million contracts as part of a bid to launch a global rebel cricket league.
Fairfax Media is reporting the Aussie stars are two of the key targets in the plot by Indian billionaire Subhash Chandra to shake up the cricket establishment by founding a rival to the Indian Premier League T20 tournament, as well as setting up a governing body outside the International Cricket Council.
Chandra, the owner of giant conglomerate Essel Group which owns Asian TV powerhouse Zee TV, has been likened to late Australian media mogul Kerry Packer who changed cricket forever with the creation of World Series Cricket.
However as Fox Sports explained earlier this week, Packer had the advantage of attracting players with far higher salaries than the meagre sums they were receiving from the Australian Cricket Board at the time.
Chandra faces a stiffer challenge as players like Clarke and Warner are already on multi-million dollar salaries, but according to Fairfax the 21st wealthiest person in India plans on facing that challenge head on.
Fairfax is reporting that Clarke and Warner could be offered 10-year deals worth a total of $50 million each.
