It has now been confirmed that the first day-night Test match will be played at the Adelaide Oval in the third match of the series between Australia and New Zealand, starting on November 27.

There appears to be some scepticism amongst the New Zealand players about playing with the pink ball and a Test match under lights in general.

The purist in me is not a fan of playing Test match cricket under lights, though I do appreciate the need to increase attendance in the grounds and viewership at home.

Well it will be interesting to see how fans react to this new initiative. Test cricket is not attractive to people who are not die hard cricket fans and so having test cricket in the night may help a bit with the viewership.

Mitchell Starc and Mitchell Johnson both weighed in today and neither seem to be thrilled with the idea of day-night cricket. Mitchell Johnson expressed fears about losing the tradition of Test cricket while Mitchell Starc is not happy with the pink ball itself believing that they swing less and are a poor imitation of the red Kookaburras. Worse yet, he claims they are near impossible to see from the boundary:

With the first day-night Test match just over a month away, Ricky Ponting is another to voice his concerns about the concept, believing that it goes against the history and tradition of the game.

It seems that most New Zealand cricketers - both current and former - have been quite receptive to the idea, whereas a number of Australia players - again both current and former - have spoken out against it.
