Anil Beharry to contest BCB Presidency

Georgetown, Guyana - First Vice President of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) Anil Beharry on Thursday has announced to contest for the BCB Presidency at the board’s next elections.

Unconfirmed reports suggested that Beharry, a vice-president since 2013, is gearing up to battle President of the Port Mourant Cricket Club (PMCC), businessman Vicram Suebarran, at the board’s elections set for December 28.

Incumbent President Keith Foster cannot seek reelection since his two years; three term period expire at the end of the year.

According to the BCB’s constitution, the three associations; West Berbice, Berbice River and Upper Corentyne are entitled to four votes each, while the 14 clubs affiliated with the BCB are entitled to two votes each.

Those clubs entitled to voting rights are: Ki;donnan, Whim, Port Mourant, Rose Hall Town Youth and Sport Club, Albion, Chesney, Rose Hall Community Centre, Young Warriors, Bermine, Police, Mental, Mount Sinai and Blairmont.

Meanwhile, Beharry believe that he has the support of majority of the association and clubs to be the next president.

Speaking with Guyana Times Sport, the experienced cricket administrator explained that he finally deciding to run for the post following public call from several persons in the cricket fraternity. The elections is billed for the board’s Charlotte Street, Head Office from 10:00 hrs.
