ALBION Cricket Club’s Sharaz Ramcharran was last Wednesday handed the reins of captaincy of the Berbice Under-19 team by the Berbice Cricket Board Junior Selection Committee, headed by Leslie Solomon.The selectors named a strong 22-man squad for the upcoming Guyana Cricket Board Inter-county tournament and the talented Ramcharran will have as his deputy, West Indies Under-19 and senior national player Shimron Hetmyer.
The squad also has the richly talented Askay Homraj, Hakeem Hinds, Nicholas Cameron, Balchand Baldeo and David Latchaya, just to name a few players who have vast experience, having represented their respective teams at the first division level in competitions organised by the BCB.
However, not to leave any stone unturned in their quest to wrest the trophy from Demerara, the Special Events Committee of the BCB has organised a two-day coaching programme for the squad, which is being sponsored by Elizabeth Styles.
A plethora of coaches, namely Michael Hyles, Hubern Evans, Albert Smith and Winston Smith, would take the players through their sessions which will be held tomorrow and Sunday at the Albion Community Centre ground, with the main aim being to prepare the team physically and mentally for the tournament.
Chairman of the Special Event Committee, Hilbert Foster, is urging all the players to report to the venue on both days at 12:00hrs, with their cricket gear and proper cricketing attire.
