T&T continued their good work in the Regional First Class tournament last evening, as up to press time they were 146 for one in their second round day/night clash against the Leewards at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port-of-Spain. Leading the way for the home team was the hard-hitting, left-handed batsmen Evin Lewis, who was unbeaten on 71 and with him was West Indies left-handed batsman Darren Bravo on 45 not out. The man dismissed was opener Adrian Barath for 24.
Local skipper Rayad Emrit won the toss and decided to take first strike and his decision was vindicated by his batsmen who all showed discipline and patience in their approach. The normally free scoring Lewis curbed his natural aggression for a watchful innings and together with Adrian Barath was able to post 56 for the first wicket. The two weathered the early storm with the new ball and was parted in the 20th over. Barath was caught by Jamar Hamilton off spinner Justin Athanaze for 24.
Darren Bravo, searching for form, came in and together with Lewis was able to add a further 91 runs and 50 minutes after the dinner break, they were still battling for their country. Lewis had, so far, faced 143 balls and batted for 175 minutes. His innings contained 11 fours and a solitary six. The left-hander looked good for a century, as he was very composed during his knock.
Bravo had batted for 108 minutes, facing 97 balls, striking four fours and a six. T&T won their opening game against the Windwards last week at the Oval.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
