Steve Waugh has a staggering 72 percent win record as captain (a record breaking 16 consecutive Test wins). His predecessor, Mark Taylor, has 54 percent wins.
The second highest captain is another Aussie, Ricky Ponting with 62 percent wins.
Shaun Pollock is the best South African captain with 53 percent wins.
Dhoni has a respectable 53 percent wins.
Clive Lloyd 48 percent wins.
Clyde Walcott has over 50 percent wins. (not sure exactly how much)
Graeme Smith 48 percent wins.
Viv Richards 54 percent wins
Greg Chappel 43 percent wins.
The legendary Gavascar only has 19 percent wins.
Michael Clarke has 51 percent wins.
John Brearly of England has 53 percent wins.
Wasim Akram has a respectable 48 percent wins.
Michael Vaughn an unexpected 51 percent wins
Sobers only has a 23 percent win ratio.
__________
Aussies simply dominate.

from 1965 to 1967 in India Sobers was close to 80% wins.
then his side fell apart by age and other causes.
it is just that to Smif and Sobers as captain had a lot in common. deh liked to declare and loose for sure..and take chances sending in the opposition to bat on winning the toss

Sammy has 26 percent wins, 40 percent loss ratio.
Remember, Sammy also plays a lot of minnows, so his "win rating" is even more terrible when this is factored in. Zimbabwe and Bangladesh didnt play much before 2002.
