Guyana, boasting arguably their strongest team in years, arrived in the country yesterday ahead of their West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Four-Day cricket match against Jamaica at Sabina Park, starting on Friday.
Led by captain Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who was ushered into the position over the weekend after an injury to original captain Leon Johnson, the 13-member contingent is made up several current West Indies players.
These include experienced batsmen Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Narsingh Deonarine, Assad Fudadin and Sewnarine Chattergoon, plus big-hitting all-rounder Chris Barnwell, as well as leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo and left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul.
"We have a good team, which features a good combination of experienced and young players," Guyana coach Esuan Crandon told The Gleaner upon their arrival at the Norman Manley International Airport yesterday.
TRUMP CARD
"We have players such as Shiv (Chanderpaul), Sars (Sarwan), Deonarine and Fuddadin, who we expect to lead our batting, while as it relates to our bowling, our spinners Bishoo and Permaul should be our trump card."
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
