Jamaica’s senior cricket squad is scheduled to depart today for the 2013 Regional Super50 tournament in Trinidad and Tobago.
The tournament bowls off on Thursday with Jamaica facing defending champions the Windward Islands in the opening match.
Matches will be played at Queen’s Park Oval in Port-of-Spain and Shaw Park in Tobago.
Eight teams divided into two zones will contest the tournament.
Zone A comprises the champs Windward Islands, Jamaica, Guyana and Ireland, while hosts Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, Leeward Islands and Combined Campuses & Colleges – last year’s losing finalists, compete in Zone B.
Jamaica will be without West Indies explosive opener Chris Gayle who failed to recover from his hamstring injury suffered in November.
Gayle, who was elected captain, pulled out of Jamaica’s squad on Friday.
Big hitting opener Kennar Lewis has been drafted into the squad as Gayle’s replacement.
Experienced allrounder David Bernard will now lead the team.
Left-arm spinner Nikita Miller is the new vice captain.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
