Jamaica will be without captain Chris Gayle for the upcoming West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) NAGICO Insurance Super50 tournament to be held in Trinidad and Tobago.
The flambuoyant opener was withdrawn from the team's original 14-man squad yesterday after failing to adequately recover from a hamstring injury he sustained while on tour of India with West Indies last November.
It understood that Gayle, after training with the national team on Tuesday, conducted follow-up tests with head of West Indies Cricket Board medical panel, Dr Akshai Mansingh, who passed him not fit enough to participate.
"Gayle did a medical with Dr Mansingh and the prognosis was that the injury had not healed well enough, as such it would be a risk to take him to the tournament," said a highly placed Jamaica Cricket Association source.
"A decision was then taken to leave him out so that he can fully recover for future national and regional engagements."
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
