GEORGETOWN—Veteran West Indies middle order batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul compiled a patient unbeaten half century that failed to prevent Guyana from losing to a Rest X1 in a warm-up match before the start of the Regional Super50 tournament next week. Chanderpaul led the run chase with a top score of 77 but was unable to save Guyana from a 32 run defeat at the Guyana national stadium on Wednesday night.
The rest X1 posted a challenging 250 for 7 in their 50 overs on a top score of 62 from Rajendra Chandrika, 55 from Shewnarine Chattergoon and 49 from Vishal Singh. Christopher Barnwell led Guyana’s bowling effort with four for 44. Chanderpaul was the only sparkle in Guyana’s batting as the national side was bowled out for 218 in 47 overs. The NAGICO Super50 bowls off on January 30 in Port-of-Spain, with Guyana playing their first match against guest team Ireland on January 31 at Queen’s Park Oval. CMC
