England skipper comes under more fire after heavy defeat

Australia’s remorseless domination in all forms of cricket this Ashes summer appears to have pushed England skipper Alastair Cook to the brink of considering whether he wants to continue as captain.

England slumped to their eighth consecutive loss to Australia tonight with a thumping seven-wicket loss with 10 overs to spare in the decisive third match of the Carlton Mid ODI Series at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

That result hands Australia the five-match series, and immediately after the match he was questioned as to whether the toll of defeat would force him to consider his roles as captain, specifically of the one-day outfit.

But while Cook was adamant in the wake of the five-nil Ashes drubbing that he wanted to remain as leader of the Test team, his tune was decidedly different after three losses in the space of a week in the white ball game.

“It’s been two weeks since someone asked me that question and a lot has happened in two weeks,” a clearly dejected Cook said. “We’ve kept losing games of cricket and I haven’t been able to turn it around.

“I want to be part of a successful one-day team, I feel that I’m a good enough player to do that and my record suggests that I can do that.”

Pressed on whether that meant he wanted to continue as one-day captain, mindful that the next ICC World Cup is just over a year away in Australia and New Zealand, Cook gave the indication that he will consider his future as leader when he returns following the current disastrous tour.

“I’ve got to make decisions at certain times, I can’t answer that question (whether want to continue as captain of one-day team) now because we’re in the middle of the series,” he said. “And I don’t know what I’m going to feel like when I get home.”

This is a sad news. I did watch last two matches and really seems like England have failed to produce any magic moments on the field. Cook should be given rest. Let him get his mind fresh and come back purely as a batsman. Captaincy is robbing him of his game. Wishing you good luck Cook, things will surely change for you.

What bullshit.
I didn't think that Cook deserved to be in the ODI team, let alone be the ODI captain - but he's proved himself as an ODI player and did reasonably well as a captain. Look at his results, he's done a pretty reasonable job. And every captain goes through rough patches, so meh.
All the kneejerk is rubbish.

Cook is one of those accomplished captains and  he has won 29 of his 52 international games in charge, which is a good winning %.He has had a dreadful tour this summer,Right from the Ashes whitewash to the ODI series loss, the home loss in championship trophy final.England have been on the down slide for the last half a year or so.
In my stance,England can try a new skipper in his place and accept his resignation.

You make the "loss at home" sound like they got out in the initial rounds or something. They were the finalists, for godssakes. That's not a "slide". That's a good result, although they couldn't get past the finishing line and whatnot.

This is the first ODI series they've sucked ass. And they've started calling for Cook's head because it's Australia.

And the next option is possibly Bell. I would much rather stick with Cook - although if I would drop him, it's more due to his own lack of form, not because his captaincy sucks.

Perhaps the most perplexing aspect of AT&T Stadium, otherwise known as “Jerry World,” is the glare from the sun that bursts through the windows and shines directly onto the field. Time and time again the glare has impacted players’ visibility during games, yet Jerry Jones refuses to make any changes to account for the sun.

Rather than install curtains, Jones has previously said he feels it’s a home-field advantage to have that type of stadium factor impacting games. Well, the glare ended up benefitting the Chiefs early into Thursday’s Thanksgiving game, as a pass from Dak Prescott to George Pickens fell incomplete, at least in part due to the impact of the sun’s glare.

SerenaThis batting performance by the West Indies in the second innings blew me away. I kept closing my eyes and then rubbing and opening them again and sat transfixed as I watch that unbelievable partnership between John Campbell and Shai Hope. What a magnificent performance by these two! It just goes to show that patience, determination and effort can go a long way to improve the performances of the West Indies team. Let us hope that this effort by West Indies batsmen would not be a one-off performance, but will be the beginning of a renewed effort to improve the performances of the team, going forward.(13.10.2025, 09:28)(09:28)0

"As a competitor, you want to be the starter. But I prepare to be the starter, I know I'm a starter in this league.

But you have to be able to be grateful for your role...my role right now is to assist Russ and Jaxson to be the best that they can be while preparing to be the best that I can be.

No matter if I'm 3, 33, this is my first year being number 19, so it's always a first for everything.
